Red
Point History
In 1923 two individuals purchased “Red Point Farm”
in North East, MD. There was close to one mile of waterfront
on the North East River with high bluffs on one side overlooking
the Susquehanna flats and a beautiful sandy beach on the
other. Their intent was to develop a seaside resort community.
A small 15 acre parcel was divided into building lots with
a view of the water. The residents had use of the common
areas which included the beach, boat ramp, dock, and water-front
area (parkland). The parkland was intended to have rides
and entertainment which never evolved.

Over
the years there were campgrounds, a store, and a boardwalk
that were commercially operated by the owners. In 1979 the
campground and commercial operations ceased and the common
areas have remained private since. In 1987 David McDaniel
& his wife purchased the remaining farm & waterfront
to build a house & horse farm.

In September 2003 hurricane Isabel destroyed the “old
store” building which was converted into a cottage
in 1987. The location of this building was at the end of
the bluffs overlooking the beach & waterfront. A new
lighthouse replica replaced the old building after two years
of construction. The building was designed & the construction
supervised by the owner J. David McDaniel for weekly rentals
and a part-time residence. He presently has a 9,000 square
foot antique market in North East with 60 different dealers.

The
decor of the lighthouse reflects a lot of the antiques and
collectibles of the store. There are also a few heads hanging
(450 lb blue marlin, bear, deer, elk) that he has collected
over the years.

The lighthouse features interior railings & bannisters
made of driftwood right off of Red Point Beach. The circular
stairway to the cupola was built around a driftwood log
brought in from the beach. The floors are thick pine in
an octagon design. The
first floor is designed as a compass that covers the entire
floor made out of stone and granite.

Other features include four bedrooms (2 doubles and 2 queens),
four full baths (one with 3 shower heads and 4 body sprays),
wrap around balcony, 2 big screen TVs with high-definition
Direct TV, sound systems in master bedroom & living
room, wood stove, Jacuzzi, wet bar, full kitchen with custom
cabinets, washer & dryer, and custom furniture by local
artists. It also includes a backup generator for power failure.
